Meeting Minutes: Emergency Group Conscious 2025/07/13

  1. Meeting called to order 4:30 PM EST 7/13/25
  2. In Attendance: Amy D., Anna F., Barbare Marie, Brian L., Dan ND., Jackie, Richard, Stephen C.,
    Kathy H., Dan M., Hans L., Michelle H., Jacquie J., Natalie N., James O., Chris S., Rene N., Christy J.
  3. Second Tradition was read
  4. Anna made a note to be kind to one another.
  5. Meeting was called because Jeni Marie stepped down and a lot of service vacancies exist.
  6. It was noted that we need to practice spiritual principles in our room.
  7. Brian L. will act as secretary today.
  8. Schedule and vacancies was displayed.
  9. Brian L. makes a motion to move the weekend speaker meetings to 10 P.M. and the 10 P.M. meetings to 6:30 PM.
  10. Jackie seconds this and indicated she will help with speaker meetings.
  11. Steven C . suggests one speaker meeting at 6:30 PM if we move the weekend meetings.
  12. Natalie indicates she is able to help.
  13. Amy D. says that burnout happens with too many commitments, maybe we should have two meetings instead of three with the second meeting being at 8:30 PM EST
  14. Hans L. says he can take up the slack on weekend nights.
  15. James O. suggests we have one speaker meeting a week and can help at 6:30
  16. Brian L. clarifies his motion (restates)
  17. Richard says maybe we should cut speaker meetings and have a second grapevine meeting
  18. Anna states that Friday and Saturday nights at 6:30 are the problem areas, we need to focus on teamwork, and that the past is past, we need to move forward.
  19. Christopher S. says that we should focus on filling the vacancies in the schedule and to ask what lessons are learned from the recent past? Racism is a huge problem with the bombers and we need to keep a safe environment. We’re on an unsustainable track [with number of meetings to service]
  20. Barbara Marie indicates she can take some 6:30 PM service.
  21. Brian L. suggests we focus this meeting on the rest of July only.
  22. It was suggested we limit then number of commitments any one person can take, perhaps by length of sobriety.
  23. Stephen C. indicates that ultimately, the host is responsible for moderation of the meeting and we need to be flexible.
  24. Jackie and James O. agree with Brian L.
  25. James O. suggests we pay attention to the traditions.
  26. Richard has seen people burnout from too much commitment. Also, there seems to be two groups of people, those who do, and those who don’t. Also, he can do Friday 6:30 PM EST service.
  27. Anna says that some people are/are not employed and everyone’s service ability is different.
  28. Christopher S. says that traditions meetings are important and can share the list of things for discussion at the next GC.
  29. Christy J. will commit to 10 PM Monday and Thursday
  30. Brian and Jackie will handle speaker seeker for the month.
  31. Brian will run some trainings in July.
  32. At this point the schedule was displayed and filled in where available.
  33. Jackie J. agrees with Christopher on cutting meetings, we need a second traditions meeting, we are becoming a glum lot, can commit to the women’s meeting and unity is important.
  34. Richard suggests we change the meeting password. Anna disagrees, the difficulty is that we don’t require an authenticated zoom account.
  35. Emily can do service at the women’s meeting
  36. It was suggested we cut a speaker meeting for a tradition meeting.
  37. Anna advised we should discuss at July meeting
  38. Brian read the responsibility statement
  39. Meeting was adjourned at 5:28 PM EST
  40. List of things to discuss at July meeting:
    • Providing guidelines suggesting that individuals consider their well-being and not take on too many commitments (concerns for burnout)
    • Consider the number of SOTU meetings provided during the week (concerns that we are spread too thin)
    • Elect a new speaker seeker and secretary
    • Review the meeting topics and consider new formats (perhaps fewer speaker meetings, traditions meetings, etc.)
    • Determine how to address issues of tone in accordance with the traditions (especially tradition 12).
